How to Cover a Bible Using Scrapbook Paper -Quick and Easy!

I have a lovely original Scofield Bible published by Oxford Press back in the 1930s.  What makes it even more special it was given to me by my sweet friend Lauren!  I use this bible daily and while the binding, true to Oxford quality, is still in excellent condition, the cover needed a little first aid.  !  Another dear friend Holly sent me some lovely handmade paper.  I thought the two would marry beautifully!  I wanted to share the results with you all.

Lovely paper and a beautiful card from Holly, these are 5 x 6 cuts

The Bible was given to  by Lauren.  You can see where the leather is dehydrated beyond what I can do to restore it - I did try.  Not bad for over 90 years old!

this is what I used to coat the Bible and glue the paper down and cover the paper in two coats

I buy it by the gallon on Amazon it is perfect for card making and very affordable!

Front

I am going to put a scripture on the front cover when I decide which one!

I cover the bible with a generous coat of glue, and then laid the papers over it.
I let it dry for about an hour.  This is really a form of Decoupage.

I coated each side and let it dry, coated again and let it sit overnight.  I rested the open bible, text side resting on a coffee can while dried overnight.

This cover will last a long long time, I have been doing this to bibles in need of first aid for 2 decades!

The coat is very smooth and pleasant to touch, it dries hard and because it is made as a bookbinding product it is very flexable.  It feels and LOOKS like Faux leather.

Hope this is helpful for your bibles in need of a little TLC!  Of course have a favorite bible rebound it the best option, but due to cost, it can be prohibitive.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Happy Word Art Wednesday, Bi-Weekly Challenge and Freebies # 503-504

Happy Word Art Wednesday everyone! Karen Letchworth has given us a beautiful devotion!  We also have another gorgeous  Bible verse digitized by Karen Murray!    Our Sponsor this week is   CAS-ual Fridays Check them out.   Head over to the blog and check out the design team's sample,  join in the fun!

This week's verse conveys a more serious message and one we all need to hear and heed!  I used an image of two women talking - similar to last week.  I look at that as a bridge from here to eternity and making the walk with a companion.  Don't we all need a good friend?  I am deeply thankful for the friendships the Lord has blessed me with on the long walk that has been walked with Him.

I used a 130# base paper and mirror board for dimension, to add a simple interest to the card

You can go to Word Art Wednesday for today's verse and I am giving you this beautiful Asian image.  It's public domain Art do no worries about the copyright.
I printed on a textured heavy-weight card stock.

Wise Word and Bible Verse Digital for Your Card Making

6 years ago I purchased Photoshop Elements and spent about 6 months learning it bit by bit, then I moved, lacked the time and forgot everything I learned. Last night when I was reading the word, I was really touched by a verse and it's application in my life and I wanted to digitize it so that I could make cards of encouragement and share the word. So I decided to open up PE and give it ago. I looked at the software and felt the brain fog descend. This Time I prayed and asked the Lord to help me, and you know what - He did! I am sharing three forms of it with you and I will put them in the scripture files. If you are a KJV-only person, keep scrolling, I understand - this is not KJV. The single you can make any size you like. I did the large as a card focal point and the small to work with your fav stamps. I hope you like this and will find it useful.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy these and while you are making- Ask the Lord for Wisdom and that your words be wise!

I make each card very mailable - they tend to be heavy due to the papers I use.  But that is okay, I don't have a problem with the extra ounce postage.

Here are my cards:

I just could not decide which colorway I liked better

I have lots of friends in ministry so these cards won't stay on my desk!

Today is a hallmark day for me, for the first time in a year, I feel like I have caught up with life, deadlines, and task maintenance.  I am now looking forward to pushing ahead with some of the plans I had in the works before The Covid Isolation period.  I never isolated, as a caregiver for seniors and church ministry became busier than ever, I also took on a new Job as a Paralegal which has been a bit of a whirlwind!
I've taken my favorite stamps out of storage, purchased a few new ones and I am looking forward to using them for WAW and for my regular card ministry!

My Freebies for you!

I hope you are getting out again and life becoming more normal (whatever that is these days!)

A Special Free Set of Digitals for Your Card Making Ministry

Last night while working through some ideas of how to keep our church's card ministry up to date and have it be a real blessing, I thought to develop a set of cards that I can store digitally for fast makes.  I wanted to share these with anyone that has a need whether personal or for church ministry.

The first thing I wanted to make, was a nice digital background stamp that could be an all-occasion stamp.  What better for this than Psalm 23 and 24:

1{A Psalm of David.} The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever

1 The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

7Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

8Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

9Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah

I felt that these words would inspire and bless.*  I have used the Font called "Blessing".

*I've made these so that you can right-click and save for your card-making!

Here is the first card I made with The Background

I used a Simply Stamps set and alcohol ink to color and created the "Praise" sentiment on my Cricut.

Two  Digitals:

A very simple card, I only line edged the card face panel

I've had so many ideas to use this background!

I hope you will find this background stamp useful, I really enjoyed the process of making it and then creating cards with it.
