Hybrid card making

I LOVE combining digitals stamps with hand techniques.  Card making has only changed somewhat with technology.
It is true, technology gives us tools to make more beautiful handmade cards,  and it enhances our style, whether clean and simple or mixed media, still, the point is not the technology, it is the beautiful handmade card.
Today We have so many options and so many wonderful products available - not like in the 70's when I started in high school, cutting my own stamps out of erasers and linoleum squares!
I'm all for giving new things a try,  as you try different tools and mediums all of your skills will improve, just remember it is all about the end result, not the "stuff"!!

Today I made a card for Heart Lines Ministry - Heart Lines is an out-reach card making group, we send lots of cards to people who need a smile! we specialize in elderly ad shut-ins.




I used the set called "Peace" by Graciellie Designs.





I printed my images on 
 Heavenly White 80# Cardstock from Paper Temptress
the 80# is wonderful for printing and coloring, 120# for bases! 
this heavenly white paper is also The preferred blending paper for Copic Markers and all alcohol marker coloring - I use Spectrum Noirs. Heavenly White does not feather, you can color up to the coloring line without worrying about the ink feathering over the stamp line plus the colors are much more vibrant due to the brightest surface. Now for ink jet printing, it grabs the ink and holds it.  It sets right into the paper instantly and gives a beautiful canvas for alcohol marker coloring - no bleeding or feathering!.



I created my watercolor background and sized it 


I added and sized my elements 

I colored my bird using only blue and a flesh tone and blender pen. Glittery nail polish and a dot of white liquid pearl. then fussy cut


For my backdrop I used a dark blue distress ink  to enhance the edge and add depth


I added a bow to the side and along with all my layers I used Best Glue Ever ( it really is!)
I used three tiny dots- no hot glue needed!
This also worked on the Metalic Paper, My other glues did not - so no ATG on this card!
For dimension, I still use foam tape

This card took my 3x times longer to write about than to actually make.  Using my computer enabled me to mask and watercolor in a few minutes.  The hand process of doing both is wonderful but I don't have the time or the supplies for all the mistakes I would have made!  Now I also have a saved file to make this again!
I think it is always a good thing to try expanding your crafty skills!

Hun, I really like this blend of blue and yellow. This card has a nice pop to it and I have always liked the tear look to paper like at the bottom of the card. And, thank you God for your peace !!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
