Robins Quilt Block and a fun freebie!

My sister Robin is a master quilter, what she can do with needle and thread and with the speed she does it, is simply amazing!  Robin posted a picture of one of her quilt blocks on Facebook and of course, it went into my feed, and I thought wow,  I'd love to make her a card with the photo of the block!  So I grabbed a copy and "digitized" it.

For my printing paper I used 80# White Diamond by Paper Temptress.  I choose this paper because it has a pearly luster similar to polished cotton and I know it will grab the ink and hold it with a perfect crispness - no ink bleeding!


Right now space in my craft room is at an all time premium and I have only one sewing machine available, thankfully is such a wonderful sewer and looks great too!  My vintage Singe 301A long bed, it is in almost mint condition and it  sews perfectly, a great quilting machine too!

I did a few test stitches  to check length and how it would work with the paper
If you haven't tried sewing  on your cards and other paper crafting - Try it!!



Using 24tex thread and a #11 needle, I sewed on the "seam" lines
you can see every detail of the fabric/photo.  This is printed on a cheapo $59.00 printer. Using really good paper makes a huge difference!

This was really very fun!

My finished card I mounted on Midnight Blue Classic   and used the same for a base.

I can't wait to get this card in the mail, my sister will be so surprised!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
