Whole Foods and Better MPG's WOYWW#188

It is time for the Weekly WOYWW, # 188!  God here for this world wide fun hop hosted by Queen Julia!  http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/.  I have missed two weeks of the hop, due to Holidays and incoming and staying over family fun time!  I have had a great two weeks, Steve even had vacation that he was actually able to take!
I've been making lots of cards this week but today on my work desk a break from paper crafting into a time of food crafting.  We love whole foods here, the more I learn the more we like, even my 18 year old!
I had felt very blah about cooking since the beginning of November, I think I was going through a little bit of burn out.  But the burn out blew out and last week I actually felt like cooking again!!  After robbing a bank (no not really),  big trip to CostCo and  Whole Foods my pantry and freezer are restocked and ready.
I am also working on being more economical.
Steve and I need to loose about 25 lbs each.  Ya Ya, in my profile my list of hobbies include, Card Making, Quilting, Fiber Arts, Cooking, Dieting and reading about dieting and cooking.  Same ole story I have been playing ping pong with the same 25 lbs for 15 years.  Oh well it gives me something to do!  But we need to get healthier and stay that way.  I now know heart disease runs in my family and we have had one chapter of cancer already, I would be foolish not to try to do more to avoid this in our future.  So the only new thing besides new recipes that I am doing, I have finally found an affordable source of virgin/organic coconut oil - at cost co!  54 ounces for 17.99, that is a good price.  And if you don't know Coconut Oil is wonderful for everything, just read about it on the Internet and go to pintrest for a pocket size list of 50 things it is good for.  Everything from helping you loose weight and improving the gas mileage of your car.  I've have cooked with it - Delicious! made lip balm, face moisturizer, I even gave Luke a dose to help his lovely polka dot coat!
So here is my work desk:

we love Quinoa!  very tasty, low in calories, high in protein, not expensive and good for savory dishes as well as a hot breakfast cereal (with a little real maple syrup - 5 star stuff!)  It is actually considered a super food.

I have all of Heidi Swanson's cookbooks and they are wonderful and worth every penny.  Go here to check out her blog:  http://www.101cookbooks.com/index.html   from Heidi's blogs and books I learned how to put together a whole food pantry, (seriously get rid of the junk food in your house)  learned about grains and organic foods and quite a lot of other things that if you are interested in good health and good food you will find priceless!

I always think of whole food eating as an adventure, I am supremely blessed that my husband is also interested in this and loves to try new things.
Bottom line you are what you eat!!
This is one area of Life we do have control over and I think if you are a Christian, this is a part of our stewardship, taking care of the "Temple" and using of finances to build good health.  Of course it is more work, but I could go to hall mark and (perish the thought) buy cards. It is all in the choices.

Well thanks for stopping by and checking out my work desk.  If you have any questions about whole food eating I would be happy to help!
Have a great day
Ginny the Skinny ( well will be)!

Well Ginny, I admire your changes I really do. Ive lost fifty odd pounds in the last eight months and although I use it, cant say im a big fan of quinoa, although it is a s you say, a true superfood. The cooked texture doesnt work for me, shame huh! Am sure you will continue to enjoy your cooking discoveries, and good luck with the old weight!
