Teal and Memories

Design Team time, I worked up three cards for Nicecrane Designs and needed something in mind as a prompt.  I came across a piece of paper in my stash that looked like a beautiful paper in my Grandmothers house, she had a beautiful guest bedroom with Teal wallpaper, cherry furniture and cream colored lace curtians.

This is from the set Little picture songs CS  I added a little vintage to the vignette.

This beautiful set is called Colorful butterflies III

She is so sweet!  From the set  Children By Emile Munier

As always the Nicecrane designs print out perfectly and really give you so much versatility in your card making!  When I did these cards, I just looked for teal in my stash, grabbed and glued!

Tomorrow:  6 quick tips for making better cards!!

I hope you give them a try!

WOYWW #256

Grab a cuppa, it is that time again!!  head over to Julia's blog to pick up the rest of the world wide crafty peek show!!
This week I've been working a lot out of the house and after last weeks challenge I did not want to look at brown!!  Thanks again to all of you who played along with my challenge!
My workdesk today is a DT production with a couple of new storage items from the shop, if you want to see the cards, you'll have to come back tomorrow!!
you see the smallish rack in the middle holding my folded card bases! That is from the Letterpress Things Shop and it is called a furniture cabinet, it is meant to hold blocks of wood used in type setting.  It now holding about 300 folded card bases and envelopes!
Nice and tidy work desk too!

I also picked this up at work:

The large paper shelf on the right hold 16 reams of card base papers. Steve and I will refinish all the wood stuff in my room when we decide what colors to go with, I'm just happy to have this storage right now, It is made of pine and sturdy as can be.
 I paid 20.00!!
Thanks for stopping by my workdesk and tomorrow I'll show you what I made using the Teal as a color prompt!

And The Winner Is:

Good Morning Everyone!  Last night marked the end of my Contest of how many cards I could make from one 48 sheet of 6x6 paper!  For some reason I thought this would be easy!  Day two of the week I had to say Why did I pick a pad that was so predominantly brown!!  Then I remember I did so because I needed a bunch of masculine cards.  By Day 3 the Brown's were getting Borrrriiinnngg!  By day 5 it was getting fun again!! last night I finished making cards at 11:28 and I think my Dear Husband was thinking I was pretty boring ( I am)!  So I'm going to announce the winner in a second some of the guess were crazy - many over 100!!  I appreciated the vote of confidence  but no way could I get that many cards of the pack!!  There were four guesses that were very close, no one got it on the exact number, so the closet wins following the two instructions: 1 - the closest guess and 2-  join my blog.  Of the four close guesses two people joined the blog.  To drag this out a little bit more I'm going to show you the cards I made from the mini stack and then tell you who won!!

Out of the 48 sheets, I had these four sheets left

Here are the cards:

Contest!!

One of the fun things about blog reading and participating in challenge entries is prizes!!   I thought I'd have a little contest on my blog this week!!  This contest will last one week closing midnight Friday 4/25/14  , Next Saturday I will post the winner! On Monday I will mail the package, it is all ready to go!!  The contest is very simple.

1)  Guess how many cards I have made from this set of 6x6 (48 sheets) of paper - closest wins the prize!  I will have a random draw in the event of a tie.
2) Join my blog or already be a follower!  The  followers gadget is on the right hand sidebar - it is easy!!
3) leave a comment with your guess!

This is the pad:

This is the Prize:

That is it Easy Peasy!

Last year I chopped most of my 12x12 pads in to 6x6 pads, this made card making so much easier and fun!!  With this contest I will be using one pad and the winner will receive one of the other ones! The pack also includes Strathmore deckle edge 100# paper, envelopes, 8.5x11 card stocks in shade of red and brown ( these are all 80#+90# papers) and a stamp set which is not in the picture.

A hint about how many cards I will make.  I don't do the type of cards where you take a 6x6 pad and make 5 cards from each sheet.  I actually have no idea how many I will make, I pulled this pad and thought it would be fun to see how many I could make and even more fun to have a contest.!  Will post a widget or something like that during the week with a link back to this contest so that more readers can join it.  I will post pictures of the finished cards on Saturday when I announce the winner.

Love ties everything together

On Tuesday, Paulette over at TLC creation posted a lovely freebie.  I love the doodle and will be making cards with it, especially for some of my students - The verse however has been in my mind and it has been working it's truth in me :
From Col 3-14

Love is more important than anything else,
It is what ties everything together.

In the KJV:
Above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

I think the most important thing we have in life is our relationship with our maker, after that our relationships with people and then our relationship with what we do. Let me explain;  we understand the importance of loving God and loving people, that type of love most of strive for, it is very solid in our lives, we must have it.  There is something else, a lesser "worked" form of love: Loving others, even people we do not know, through what we do and what we say (or write).  It isn't as existential as it sounds; when we pour our gifts and talents into what we do we make a positive difference.  When we pour love and determination into our work, we make a positive difference.
I want to pour more love into what I do, I want my reputation to say I give it my all, especially because I also say I am a Christian, I want Love to tie it all together.

This worked itself into my card making this week, I made these two cards for Nicecrane Designs and have several friends they will be mailed to.  Roses universally speak of love, so I used one image from the Flowers bring smiles set:

I printed four of these Rose images to one sheet, the cards are 5x7 base size.  The rich color make these images truly beautiful!

Thank you for stopping by my blog spot and I hope you life overflows with Love!

WOYWW#254 and the Ole Gray Mare

Hi all, it's WOYWW again!!  The Fun starts here At Julia's blog and then travels all over the world!!

As Some of my readers know I went back to work last week in a vintage print shop.  After 3 days of working, lifting and cleaning I have come to realize this was perfect timing for the reconstruction of my constitution.

The ole gray mare ain't what she used to be!!

Hahaha!  Actually if feels good to be working and I have a very pleasant job!  Now for my Work desk at home: it is quite calm!  I have been doing a lot of DT work and swaps and journals in the last couple weeks.  Today I am working on my sister act project (see last weeks WOYWW) and making a few cards.

I just made this card for the Oriental Stamps Arts'  "Ikebana" swap.
Ikebana means art of flower arranging, This swap required an Asian floral image, a hand stamp and a die cut.

Here is my card:

It's pretty CAS
.
I also worked on getting my 12x12 paper under control today:

I like these sterilite containers, they are sturdy and keeps the paper dust free.  I'd like to replace the smaller with 12x12 in the by and by - buy and buy :o).

Thanks for stopping over and I hope you will have time to enjoy the hop, it usually takes me a whole week!!
Have a great day!
Ginny

An Easter Gift for a special friend

I've been working on a Easter Gift for a special friend.  I can't go into to much of her history because I don't want to violate her privacy, I will share a tiny bit of her interesting life.  Marcia as a teenager choose to enter into the religious life of a Nun. After high school she took her orders and lived in the convent, she attended college and taught children.  She participated in continued education and while teaching also became an excellent administrator.  At 38 She felt another calling, She left the convent and the religious life and pursued the secular life.  A year later She married Leo and became a wife and step mother of 5 young adult children.  She and Leo were very happily married for 22 years. During that time she continued her education and became a teacher at a local college.  Leo Developed  cancer and six months later Marcia did too.  Leo left this life and Marcia  retired from teaching and started again.  This is when I met her, about 5 years ago.  Marcia downsized her life and that meant giving her dog up for adoption.  The dogs new parents are Pentecostals and became Marcia's best friends and then Marcia became Pentecostal, She still works with the sisters of her former religious order doing human resource/advocate work to help them out on a regional level!!.  Marcia has been such a delight to have as my friend, her witty conversation and deep appreciation of God is inspiring.  I wanted to make her something special and something that might encompass all three of her life's changes.  I was delighted when Ignacio from Nicecrane sent me these designs to work on, they would be perfect for my Gift!  I'm really not trying to merchandize the sacred, but I sure couldn't do these my self!  My Friend Shaz in Australia could, but I can't!! If you would like to se some outstanding illuminated calligraphy check out Shazs' Blog!!

This set is called the Lords Prayer: I will show you each page and then how I completed  the book.
These have been water marked, something I don't normally do , but my photo skills needed the professional enhancing ( Thank you Ignacio)!

I printed these out on 100# cold pressed water color paper , the ink in my inkjet  loved this paper !

Amen!!
