Patterned paper card

Sometimes the paper is just pretty you don't need toad another image for a focal point.
Remember your early card making days when you didn't even know what a focal point was?
I do, but then I used to make stamps by carving raw potatoes!  It worked!

I have a stack in my stash called Cherry blossom, I'm not sure who made it.  The papers are so pretty and unusuall they can really stand alone for card making.  I belong to a group called Tanoushi Swappoua, Japanese for 'beautiful swaps'.  It isn't an Asian art group only like OSA , but we do do a lot of Asian style cards.

This swap was themed Cherry Blossom.  When I signed up I had just this paper in mind along with a stamp .

This is a lovely Magenta Stamp # 0643P if you are interested. I love magenta stamps and not only do I use them to stamp with but I collect the as well, it is the only brand that I collect.  They went in to business in 1992 and I bought my first stamp from them in 1994, it was love at first sight.  Sometimes it is a love -hate relationship because they can be a pain to get a good image from!! If you use Magenta stamps you will know what I mean!

You might look at this and wonder how I can pull these three together?   The answer is: I couldn't !!

trying tp place that image anywhere on these two papers would have bee a disaster, so I opted to not use the stamp, but copy the look of it.

I prepared my 5x6 base


and began  fussy cutting my focal image:




a few minutes later and here is my card:



I actually managed to get my sentiment fully inked and straight!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
