How to Make a Beautiful Shimmery Mermaid and a Fun Freebie

                          I decided to make a pretty tag for my boxed swaps at the October                                    Split Coast Stampers Event in Ilion NY.  
The was my first time attending an event like this, what a blast! 
Each 'Shoe Box' needed a tag or label to identify who made it and what was in it.  I am really not sure why I picked a Mermaid.  But I am glad I did! I also needed to use an adhesive that I could paint with a fine line and know it would hold my beautiful flakey glitter.  Here is the end result:

In case you are wondering, I painted extra "clothes" on this mermaid.

And then very quickly added a layer of Best Glue Ever


The reason this is really the best glue for this project: it dries soft and flexible, it never makes your card brittle or rumpled.  In this case, it allows the flake to retain a measure of dimension instead of flattening out.  Another good reason - time, it took 30 seconds to lay the glue on it with the fine tip- No Oops! once the flake was applied, it took about a minute to dry - that is nice!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
