Word Art Wednesday

Today is my first Word Art Wednesday post as the newest member of the WAW Design team!
I couldn't be any happier to be a part of this design team. I consider it to be a honor and a privilege!

Our verse for today is from The Book of Joel chapter 2 verse 21. over on the Blog Karen has written a wonderful devotion, take a minute and read it you will be blessed!

Karen Murry digitized this verse in such a beautiful happy style of fonts, making this very usable for all kinds of cards.





I wanted my sample card reflect same joy and fruitfulness of the land. 

My first thought was a heat embossed stained glass look but I did not have any rubber stamps that give me the image I was looking for so I went digital



This was the image I started out with. This is a section of a Tiffany piece, I took out all the color that I could and retraced the lines with a black fine line Micro pen.  This is really simpler than it sounds, you can right click this and give it a try too.  
You might not think you want to until you see the end results!

Next I worked the coloring with Alcohol pens ( I use Spectrum Noir )

I use Neenah Solar white - a nice smooth finish for alcohol marker coloring.
I think this looks  interesting just like this!



With the card all colored you can see that the coloring is quite smooth.  
To give it a stained glass look I use my own little trick:
I apply a fairly thick coat of Polycrylic, this is water-based but there is enough solvent in this to slightly lift the inks and that give the surface a swirly colored look just like vintage stained glass.


Here is the finished card:


You can see that slight bit of color lift and the random bleed it causes!  
This is a favorite card technique of mine.
The can of min wax is about $5.00 and lasts for years.  It dries fast and leaves a lovely layer of sheen on the card.

This is a stunning card, Ginny. I love your inspiration and ongoing ideas and tips. I use a "pour medium" to get the crystal effect on art pieces.

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
