Boy is it cold here!

Okay I am ready for Spring!!
But in the mean time I'm cooking and stamping and walking Luke through the snow!
Today I've mailed of a card swap to OSA this one is a 4/4 and the Theme is 'Year of the Horse'
These cards took two tries.  I started with a Magenta stamp that I love:

This stamp is a pain to use, like so many magenta stamps, I have however come up with an ink and paper combination that works pretty well, The mess you see to the right of the stamp is an ink spray spill, what a disaster! I use an old ranger solvent ink (called 213) and a specialty photo offset paper. This combo works great especially when your refill ink bottle doesn't rain ink everywhere except on the pad!
 
Next getting a good impression, another challenge with these jumbo Magenta stamps!

Best I could get with my big block rocking stamp mount which is normally the best tool!  Resorted to remounting the stamp onto it's wood block (yes I saved it!) and using my speed ball press!


Finally a good impression!  and I didn't have to run the stamp over with my front tire!
I worked with these images to come up with something and no matter what I did I didn't like it for this swap!
I know, bad photo but these images weren't going anywhere.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
So I started over again
This Time it worked right from the start with out any ink explosions!!

For the finished card I added silk turquoise thread with silver thread, hand stamped Kanji  - Peace, Love and hope - I named the three horses!
The purple background is for
the swap hostess.


The first set of card I worked on for about 4 hours, the second set took and hour and were very enjoyable to make!

Don't you just hate it when it takes sooooo long to do the first card...at least the rest go faster! They did turn out well, so guess you feel it was worth the time!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
