What to do with Bits

"Bits"  in the card making world are all those extra things that are printed, stamped, cut out, put aside and saved for some day.  I had a giant drawer of bits, I didn't want to get rid of them because I actually do use then.  Donna G if you read this, these bits are nothing like scraps that you know I have no problem  tossing!

I wanted to make sure I had them packed in order to use them when I unpack.  In my world that makes sense.


I had accumulated a large drawer filled with all these bits. Stamped and printed images, ephemera, partially made card fronts, all kinds of things in perfect condition and ready to use.



So I sorted it into the small sterilite 12x12 drawers

 sentiments that are already backed plus images that are backed and ready to be made into a card

I actually enjoy an afternoon of assembling cards like this especially if I have a friend or two over to share the time and stuff with me!

Oh my goodness, I was just having a chat with some crafty friends Friday. After making a 200 card order I was going to trash the scraps, but i will definitely be using this system. Thanks for sharing!!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
