Flip card revisited

A couple years ago flip cards were all the rage and they really were very nice.  I made a half dozen that  I hand cut and scored.   I also  tried using my electronic cutting machine  with SVG files.  I had some many problems with that I decided that  there was no reason I really needed to continue the craft disaster, plenty of other things to do without so much waste and frustration.
I quickly forgot about it.

Two Weeks ago Kathy Godwin made so many beautiful flip cards for my scrap challenge I really had the unction to revisit the process!  Here are a few of Kathy's Flip cards:

Aren't they great!!

This time I am using a Sizzix die , my thought was this would be simple and I would be cranking out cards by the score!!

Not Quite!

On my first few goes at this I used my Ebosser electronic embossing and die cutting machine.  It works a great and never gives me a problem

Using a K&Co paper :  two sheets adhered together to give me pattern on both sides.  This paper I think has the weight of about 40lbs.

It didn't work, the die cut right through the folding lines of the paper.
Well those things happen.

Next I tried a basic grey double sided paper.  about 40lbs , still not heavy enough for a card so I also cut a piece of 65 lb white Card Stock  with the the plan to glue it together in sandwich form.

This was starting to get more complicated and I didn't want complicated.

Ouch, right through everything!!

I resorted to using my CuttleBug and cut another piece to hold the other pieces together.

That required a little experimentation too, the standard sandwich parts still cause the die to cut through the paper

So I made a shim out of three pieces of chip board and used that with a base plate and cutting plate.

And that gave me the cutting results I was striving for!

I glued the pieces together primarily because I did not want to waste this pretty BG paper.

It worked as far as holding together but it will need some cosmetic work before I can actually turn it into a card.

Next I tried a new set of BG papers, cut and glued after cutting.

It came out so-so,  I'm afraid I over pressed the score and "broke" it!

Back to the K&Co papers that I really wanted to make a card out of in the first place.
This time I glued the paper before I cut and it worked beautifully!! I finally had a base and a recipe that works for future flip cards!
Yay!

I made this card for a special lady who is about to have her 90th birthday. The CCM group is showering our friend and co members' Aunt.  how fun to receive a stack of cards from people you don't even know !  We love Shelly and now we love her Aunt Patty!!

Hi Ginny! I'm glad you tried the flip fold again on your own. It's really a fun fold and one I need to do more often myself. Hugs. Crystal
