Crazy Quilt class, task # 4 assembling the block for stitching

The next task # 3 was a lesson on balance and composition , color and shapes, task #4 required the block to be assembled using the information from the 3rd lesson ( task).   This was easy for me because I am a quilter and I have done a lot of crazy work.  I am not a fan of puzzles and this is a lot like assembling a puzzle.  This exercise is very good for me in that I have to follow directions - I am not so good at that.    If I hadn't been sewing for a while I can see where I would have stalled during the assembly.


 The pattern is traced onto the foundation muslin:

paper pieces are cut out 


Pinned to fabric and cut out


Stitched down and hooped, ready for the embroidery tasks


Not my normal color palette, but by using neutrals, I can focus on the quality of my stitching.

Good luck Ginny. I don't think I'd be disciplined enough to do this class, but I'm looking forward to seeing how you, Alice and Wanda get on with it. If I've missed anyone else from CQ4Newbies, then blame it a 'senior moment'..or maybe more than one!

Well done on what looks to my eye to be a great starting place for the next steps. I love looking a finished crazy quilts, but that's as far as I go!!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! You can start with any size paper napkin - I like to pick min up at Tuesday Morning, they have a wonderful selection and are usually marked down Separate the printed surface from the tissue backing - these napkins are usually 3 layers I cut my panels to fit a light weight piece of cardstock I drizzled glue on the card stock and then added my napkin panel I found it was easier to keep the light and floaty napkin on the table and then place the gluey paper on it Gently smoothed it a little bit - remember the napkin layer is very fragile I gave it a few minutes to set up and the just added a puddle of Lineco glue. How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
