WOYWW# 387 a couple of tips and a freebie!

It's What's on Your Work Desk Wednesday #387.  Wow, that week flew by!!  WOYWW is a world wide blog hop of craft space sharing!  Start here At Julia's Blog "Stamping ground", Join the Fun!!

So for the "deskers" , here it is , pretty boring:

One interesting thing, I lost the stand to my glue gun about three years ago.  This giant close pin made a perfect substitute.  It made me happy.  However, I still managed to burn my fingers!!

Now I have more of a post but if your only hoping, on to the next one!!

Or keep reading for a few tips and my freebie!

here is the freebie:

I love this cat!!

Fortunately, I printed him twice!
here is a tip, for digital printing, I use cheap kids water color paper, 70-90lbs.  It works in my printer beautifully and I can use any coloring medium on it. And it is super Cheap!!  for this cat I used my alcohol markers and they worked really well!

I use the Spectrum noir brand alcohol pen, I love'em, they work great - But as far as I am concerned there are not enough colors, only 168 ( Copic has about 400- but I am not going to spend that kind of money they are 4x times  price)  So what I do to add more color variation is use my colored pencils with the markers.   I have a little system that works great:

Regular colored pencils are right under the markers

Here is another Tip:
I use this to keep my blending pens super juicy, I use the blending pen extensively with the marker pencil combo:

I also use this to refresh my Solvent ink pads like Stazon.  this is a $7.00 can that will probably last a decade or two.
I never use my pencils solo anymore I always team up with the markers, they richness of color is pretty amazing!

For my watercolor pens I do this:

The water color pencils are used with the markers in the same way.

After working on my Cat a bit I noticed I had a whole lot of yellow in the fur and it really looked terrible, they more I worked it the more yellow it became! I had to cut the lower portion of the image off and start again - that is why it was a good thing I printed two!

Then I discovered what the problem was- I grabbed the watercolor pencil instead of the solvent based pencil!

Will the do over worked -

Next, I glazed the image to give it a bit more pop:

I used white glue to do this.  I like it better than Modge Podge, it is less glossy and I have a gallon of it!

and here is the finished card:

I hope you enjoy the freebie and the "tips" help you crafting!
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

Enjoyed the view of your busy desk, Ginny. That's a fab crafty trick with the clothes pin stand for your glue gun. I've never thought of mixing pencil with markers but it looks very effective judging by your lovely cat. The card is lovely. Hope you have a great week. Elizabeth x #35

Happy Belated WOYWW. When I saw the card in the desk shot I instantly thought what a lovely image, so thank you for sharing the digital image and how you have coloured it. I do not have any alcohol markers any more - sold them a few years ago to help pay a vets bill - but do have some watercolour pens, and will try combining them with pencils. Ali x #11
