Rainy Day

It is a rainy day here in San Antonio, Texas, I'm really enjoying it!  One of  the things on my to-do list was to  get a kit framed up for stitching.


I purchased this lovely Bucilla kit at a tag sale for about 5.00. I didn't like the sentiment (it was fine, but I thought I would prefer having a bible verse).



This  is a simple tutorial on how to make the change.  Chances are you already have what you need to do this.
Supplies needed,: freezer paper, cotton fabric, iron and printer.  That's it!

Cut your fabric and freezer paper to an approximate size, I went with 8.5x11 to keep it simple in my printer



Simply iron your fabric on the shiny side of the freezer paper, cut to your preferred size

I change my printer settings to Matte photo paper and then just insert and print

That is it!!  This is terrific for making Quilt Labels too!
For this project
I am going to use a scroll frame and floor stand

The project needs to be attached to the frame, you can  hand sew the ground cloth onto a frame or you can use a machine.  I prefer machine.




I use a nice long basting stitch, it will be secure and easy to remove when I am done.

             you will want to make sure your stitching is rolling under                the frame to keep it protected. The will work up quickly, it is simple.  If you are working on something that takes months, you really need to keep the face of the project protected.


To add my Scripture to the work, I cut to the size of the original sentiment.  I tack it down with Beacon Fabric glue.  I've been using this for years, it is a great product.

I tack dow the fabric



 then I do the trim


I can  stitch the verse using a split or back stitch

It's now ready to be worked up



I've  always got an eye open for value, I purchased the frame and stand for under 20.00; these tools will last me a lifetime.  Thrift stores are also another great place to find embroidery tools.

What a great buy Ginny - we don't seem to get the craft items in thrift shops here as you do. That said, I have more than enough craft stuff to 'do' me for the rest of my life!!

Tutorial: Making Napkin Cards

Here is a fun tried and true old fashioned card making technique. Long before we had all these sumptuous patterned papers we had gorgeous napkins! For depth of color and interesting texture, you can't beat them especially for the money! Most you you may have done these so this will be an ‘Oh Yeah’ moment! Have fun! How To Restore A Vintage Rubber Stamp

I have a lovely Vintage  Magenta Cat Stamp, I'm not sure of the exact year of release, but I'm pretty sure it is about 20 years old, It appears to be in perfect condition.   But on inspection, I can feel that the rubber has gotten a little dry and "tough" and what that means is that I won't get a good impression from it.  I bet you have run into the same thing with some of your older stamps!  Don't toss the stamp, there is a way to restore them pretty easily! I have on hand the little sanding blocks you can buy for about $2.00 at the hardware store.  The are very handy in the craft room!  I gave this stamp a vigorous rubbing and then wiped off the dust with a damp wipe Next a coat of glycerin - a $4.00 drugstore item - you can also re-ink your embossing/resist pad with this! Let it sit over night and then wipe with a damp towel.  Your stamp should have that nice soft rubber texture.  Now the ink will sit on the rubber!  I inked up
